Environment Canada issues heat warning for Manning Park, South Fraser Canyon as daytime temps hit upper 30s
CHILLIWACK — As the long weekend approaches, Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for Manning Park and the South Fraser Canyon, including communities north of Hope, as daytime temperatures hover in the mid to upper thirties.
Environment Canada says a strong ride of high pressure continues to grow over the region, leading to hot daytime temperatures and overnight temperatures that will only reach the high teens. The above average heat is expected to last through the B.C. Day long weekend at which time the ridge is expected to dissipate, resulting in cooler temperatures.
The affected areas include Manning Park, Sunshine Valley, areas south of Hope, and communities north of Hope like Squeah, Spuzzum, Kanaka Bar, Boston Bar and Lytton.
Environment Canada says heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.
