Langley RCMP seize cash and contraband tobacco in traffic stop
LANGLEY – Langley RCMP’s Special Response Team seized significant amounts of currency and contraband tobacco after conducting a traffic stop on June 25.
At approximately 2:30 p.m., officers spotted a suspicious vehicle in the 5400 block of 204 Street. A short time later, the vehicle departed the area and officers observed a traffic infraction.
The traffic stop led to the discovery of $19,692 in cash, 12 cartons of unstamped cigarettes, and small amounts of illicit drugs. The driver was arrested for trafficking-related offenses and released pending further investigation.
“Contraband tobacco poses a dual threat to public health and government revenue. The driver may also face several charges under the Excise Act along with trafficking charges under the Criminal Code,” said A/Insp. Bal Sidhu, Community and Admin Services Officer for the Langley RCMP.
