CHILLIWACK — A two-storey home has been reduced to rubble by a fire Sunday (July 31) afternoon.

In a news release, the Chilliwack Fire Department said a neighbour spotted the blaze around 3:15 p.m. and called 911. Crews rushed to the home in the 5000 block of Farnham Road. By the time they arrived, the structure was fully involved.

Two people, an adult and an infant were inside the home and managed to safely escape without injury.

40 firefighters from Halls 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 established a water supply, setup a defensive attack and eventually brought the fire under control. Crews also maintained protection lines to keep the fire from extending into the wildland adjacent to the home. Due to the extreme heat of the day, a fire crew from Chilliwack River Valley Fire Department was also called in to assist with manpower.
