Weather conditions expected to cool off soon in Chilliwack

Aug 1, 2022 | 6:33 AM

Update:  CHILLIWACK —The Air Quality Advisory for the Fraser Valley has been cancelled. Air quality has improved due to a change in the weather resulting in cooler temperatures.

Earlier:  CHILLIWACK — A Heat Warning and Air Quality Advisory remain in place for the Fraser Valley on the final day of the B.C. Day long weekend. Environment Canada is predicting a high temperature of 30 today (Aug.1) in Chilliwack, however humidity levels will make it feel more like 35.

Meantime air quality concerns are continuing with the hot temperatures helping to produce high concentrations of ground level ozone, a key component of smog. Environment Canada says wildfire smoke for the Nohomin Creek wildfire near Lytton may drift into the Fraser Valley occasionally, contributing to air quality concerns.

Temperatures in the region are expected to return to near normal through the week as the high pressure system dominating south-western B.C. begins to break down. The national weather forecaster says an upper trough will be moving over the region and will bring a cooler airmass with it.
