CHILLIWACK — The Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC) said Friday afternoon that customers still awaiting a rebate cheque of $110 per vehicle should see their rebate cheques very soon.

ICBC reported on social media just after noon Friday that all remaining rebate cheques should be in the mail by the end of July. It could take a few extra days to receive the cheque in the mail depending on Canada Post’s delivery schedule.

“All cheques are scheduled to be in the mail by the end of the month,” ICBC said. “Once in the mail it will take Canada Post a few days to have them all delivered.”

ICBC warned customers not to fall prey to text message scams that encourage consumers to click on a suspicious mobile link to access their rebate.

“We are aware some customers have received text messages regarding their ICBC relief rebate,” ICBC said on social media Friday. “These messages are fake – we will not issue any rebates via text message or email. Please delete these messages.”

Personal insurance customers who had an active eligible basic auto insurance policy at any time during the month of February will receive a $110 relief rebate.

Commercial insurance customers who had an active eligible basic insurance policy at any time during the month of February will receive a $165 relief rebate. The higher amount recognizes that these drivers incur higher expenses for insurance premiums.

ICBC said the distribution of $396 million in rebate cheques would not affect its bottom line. A total of 3.5 million rebates were expected to be issued, according to the ICBC website.

“We’re in a good financial position today to provide some relief to our customers while also strengthening our capital reserves, which will ensure long-term rate affordability for British Columbians,” ICBC said on its website. “Rebuilding our depleted capital levels continues to be a priority for us and with our strong net income figure this fiscal year, we feel confident in our ability to provide this one-time rebate to British Columbians during these challenging times while continuing to rebuild capital.”
