Mission RCMP investigating utility wire thefts

Mar 3, 2024 | 11:50 AM

MISSION — Mounties in Mission are investigating a series of unusual thefts recently. Heavy-gauge utility wire has been stolen from two separate locations.

The first incident occurred around 5:30 am on February 23 near the Mission Bridge, with the second cut believed to have taken place earlier that night in the vicinity of Nelson Street and Gill Avenue.

Investigators believe the thieves utilized an angle grinder to sever the thick utility wire. The nature of the crime suggest it was a coordinated operation, as a ladder would have been necessary to reach the elevated wire, and a truck or large SUV would have been required for transporting the stolen material.

Authorities are urging anyone with information related to these incidents to come forward and assist in the investigation. They’re also asking motorists and residents to report any suspicious activity near utility lines promptly. Information can be passed along to Mission RCMP by calling the detachment at 604 826-7161.
