Highway 1 overnight slowdowns beging tonight through Abbotsford

Aug 29, 2026 | 6:00 AM

ABBOTSFORD — Drivers will have to deal with an overnight traffic-pattern change on Highway 1 at the 264th Street Interchange in Abbotsford as work continues to widen the highway through the Fraser Valley.

The change is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. Saturday (August 29). Northbound and southbound traffic on 264th Street will be shifted west onto a newly built roadway and bridge. The existing bridge and lanes on 264th Street will be permanently closed. Single-lane alternating traffic will be in place overnight while the transition is completed.

The traffic-pattern change is needed so the Ministry of Transportation and Transit’s contractor can prepare to demolish the existing 264th Street structure. The work is part of the Fraser Valley Highway 1 Corridor Improvement Program, which is aimed at improving safety and reducing congestion.

Drivers are being asked to slow down, use caution, obey signage and traffic-control personnel, and watch for roadside workers. They are also advised to allow extra travel time through the area and follow posted speed limits.
