Chilliwack RCMP urge residents to help prevent Amazon parcel theft
CHILLIWACK — As Amazon Prime Days result in millions of packages being delivered across Canada, the Upper Fraser Valley RCMP want to help put a stop to porch pirates throughout Chilliwack.
Prime Day kicked off today (Jul. 12), and the Upper Fraser Valley RCMP want to make sure your packages arrive at their destination safely. They’re urging the public to be proactive in protecting packages that they plan to have delivered to their residence.
Even though there’s been a decline in online shopping, Prime Day remains one of the busiest shopping days of the year.
“The convenience of online shopping has created new opportunities for thieves,” said Sgt. Krista Vrolyk of the Upper Fraser Valley RCMP. “Theft of packages from porches and doorsteps is a crime of opportunity. If you are expecting a package, make arrangements for someone to pick it up so that it doesn’t sit for hours on your porch or have it delivered to an alternate address.”
