UPDATE: IHIT says a 66-year-old female has died, and a 37-year-old man suffered non-life-threatening injuries, in connection with a homicide Wednesday in the 46600 block of Teton Avenue in Chilliwack, located in Fairfield Island.

According to IHIT media relations spokesperson Sgt. Timothy Pierotti, Chilliwack RCMP responded to a 9-1-1 call from a residence in the 46600 block of Teton Avenue in Chilliwack Wednesday. Officers attended and located a 66-year old female deceased and a 37-year old man suffering non-life-threatening injuries.

Sgt. Pierotti said a 68-year old man was located at the residence and was arrested without incident for murder. IHIT has taken conduct of the investigation and is working closely in partnership with the Chilliwack RCMP, the BC Coroners Service and the RCMP Integrated Forensic Identification Section (IFIS).

Initial evidence indicates this was an isolated incident between three family members, with no ongoing risk to the public, Sgt. Pierotti noted.

At this time, IHIT is not releasing the name of the victim out of respect for the family’s privacy. Additionally, in consideration of the evidence collected, it is not believed that the release of the victim’s name at this stage would further the investigation in anyway.

IHIT is asking anyone with information regarding the homicide to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448), or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
