ABBOTSFORD — The Abbotsford Police Foundation, tasked with overseeing the signature fundraiser held annually entitled “Crime is Toast – Breakfast with the Chief,” has elected its new board for 2024-25.

According to a news release from the foundation, members of the foundation elected a new board at its annual general meeting in December 2023. The 14-member board consists of the following directors:

Returning board members:

  • President Sandy Blue, VP Marcus Akhtar, treasurer Kinder Sidhu and secretary Navi Sidhu
  • Directors Erwin Braun, Christina Reid and Jennifer Willford
  • AbbyPD union president Staff Sgt. Pat Dyck

New board members:

  • Chief Constable Colin Watson
  • Britt Rigues (fundraising committee chair)
  • Archana Singh (marketing and communications committee chair)
  • Alli Blouin (events committee chair)
  • Jasmit Singh Phulka
  • Lorne Welwood (chair governance and policy committee)

Kevin Boonstra, who previously served as president until December 2022, and Jon Eaton, the former treasurer, have retired from the board.

“I’d like to thank Kevin and Jon for their longstanding, dedicated service on the board.” said ABF board president Sandy Blue. “I’m honoured to continue the work that Jack Robertson, Dave Kandal and Spud Murphy envisioned when they founded the APF back in 2005, and I’m proud of the impact the foundation has had in the community since then. Our volunteer directors devote hundreds of hours of their personal time to serve the community. I appreciate the time, talent, and passion each of our board members invest each year.”

Blue added, “As a completely volunteer organization, there is a lot of ‘behind the scenes’ work that takes place to manage a growing not-for-profit organization like ours.”

APF initiatives this year have included the annual signature fundraiser “Crime is Toast – Breakfast with the Chief”, and Trees of Hope at Sevenoaks Shopping Centre. Some of the AbbyPD grants this year – meant to build constructive relationships that bring police and the Abbotsford community together – include Movie Night in the Park and the AbbyPD City Basketball tournament.
