Heavy snow expected to arrive over highways Monday

HOPE — Environment Canada has issued a pair of Winter Storm Watches ahead of a major storm that is expected to arrive over the Coquihalla Highway and Highway 3 to Princeton.

The national weather agency says a frontal system will move through the area Monday. Then a slow-moving low-pressure system will linger through Wednesday. It says motorists should be prepared for heavy snow from Monday through Wednesday. The heaviest snow is expected Monday.

Along with the snow, strong winds are expected. Winds combined with low dropping temperatures are expected to create cold wind chills and blizzard-like conditions at higher elevations, making travel hazardous due to the low visibility.

It suggests drivers should avoid travel if possible.
