Teenager hit by car in downtown Chilliwack has a long road to recovery
CHILLIWACK — A teenager who was accidentally hit by a car in downtown Chilliwack and later airlifted to hospital this past week has a long road to recovery.
Chilliwack Fire Department personnel and B.C. Ambulance Service paramedics were dispatched at approximately 9:20 p.m. Friday evening, Dec. 29 to Yale Road and Young Road after a pedestrian was struck near Five Corners. The pedestrian, believed to be an 18-year-old male, was hit by a car traveling approximately 30-40 kilometres an hour, suffered multiple abrasions, and lost consciousness before regaining it. He was reportedly transported to hospital via air ambulance.
According to a GoFundMe description of the events leading up to the incident, the male was reportedly spending time with friends at Central Park in downtown Chilliwack. There was talk about going to the nearby bowling alley. Not long after, an individual allegedly approached the group, words were exchanged, and someone allegedly tried to run over the group. At some point, the 18-year-old male avoided a car that may have come into close contact with the male and his friends, but the male was hit by another vehicle.
Unfortunately, the teenager suffered a broken hip and pelvis, road rash all over his entire body, and a busted tooth. He was in and out of consciousness when paramedics arrived on scene. A helicopter landed at Chilliwack Airport at approximately 10:15 p.m. Friday night and subsequently airlifted the victim to hospital with extensive injuries.
