Update: Chilliwack RCMP say no criminality suspected in sudden death of an older male in downtown Chilliwack
CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack RCMP released a statement Tuesday afternoon (Dec. 12) that the sudden death of a male near Cheam View United Church in downtown Chilliwack just over a week ago is not considered suspicious.
According to a statement from RCMP Cpl. Carmen Kiener of the Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment, police now believe there is no element of criminality in the death of an older Caucasian male who was transported to hospital on the evening of Monday, December 4 and was later pronounced deceased.
“The Chilliwack RCMP would like to thank the public for the information that was provided to assist in advancing the investigation,” Cpl Kiener said in a statement. “The Chilliwack Serious Crimes Unit, working closely with the [BC] Coroners Service, has determined that there was no element of criminality in the male’s death.”
A little over the week ago, Chilliwack RCMP initally said its Serious Crimes Unit was investigating after a man died following some kind of medical distress. Chilliwack RCMP had responded to a report of a male in medical distress near the corner of Yale Road and Spadina on Monday night, December 4 at 9:57 p.m. The male was brought to the hospital and pronounced deceased. The male was described as Caucasian, 60-70 years of age, with long grey hair and a grey beard.
