Work continues to restore power in parts of Lower Mainland
VANCOUVER — B-C Hydro continues to work to get the lights back on after thousands of residents were left in the dark following Friday’s windstorm.
At the peak of the outage, 235-thousand customers were without power due to drought-damaged trees and branches toppled onto power lines.
There are still a series of outages scattered east of Abbotsford through the rest of the Lower Mainland. Surrey, Langley, Maple Ridge and Vancouver were the regions hardest hit by the storm. Affected areas through Chilliwack and Abbotsford saw their power restored by Sunday morning.
In a note on its website, BC Hydro says all available crews will continue to work around the clock until power is restored. It adds that crews made significant progress overnight and most remaining outages are expected to be prepared today. It says it may take longer for some small pockets of customers in areas that suffered significant damage.
