CHILLIWACK – If Cultus Lake hourly parking fees at main beach have you seeing red this summer, another option for traveling there opened up over the Canada Day long weekend.

BC Transit, Fraser Valley Regional District and the City of Chilliwack released a seasonal service change effective July 1 in Chilliwack and Fraser Valley Regional District transit systems.

The seasonal service reinstatement gives Chilliwack residents a rapid southbound trip to the main beach area in less than 15 minutes, assuming normal traffic.

Passengers heading to Cultus Lake can pick up bus 56 southbound on the west side of Vedder Road, near the corner of Watson Road and Vedder, in front of Lordco Auto Parts.

Passengers en route to Cultus Lake disembark at Cultus Lake Community School, located at 71 Sunnyside Boulevard. From there, it’s about a three-block walk to Cultus Lake Waterpark, Cultus Lake Adventure Park, main beach, and the strip mall containing several stores and Lakeside Beach Club restaurant.

Heading back into Chilliwack, route 56 picks up at Sunnyside and Balsam two blocks south of the school, and returns to Promontory and Vedder. There are several runs to and from Cultus Lake throughout the day and weekend. Route 56 service runs through Labour Day weekend until September 5.

Sunday service on route 71, Agassiz-Harrison, resumed on Sunday, July 3. It departs downtown Chilliwack on Sundays at 10:25 a.m., 12:25 p.m., 3:25 p.m., and 5:25 p.m. It takes 46 minutes before arriving at its final destination, Harrison Hot Springs. Route 71 runs the rest of the week, too.

Fares are $2 for adults, $1.75 for students K-12. Adult fares have remained unchanged for several years.
