Vedder Road officially widened to four lanes between Watson and Keith Wilson in Chilliwack
CHILLIWACK – The dreaded merge from two lanes to one lane for southbound Vedder Road traffic just after Watson Road is officially history.
The City of Chilliwack said Thursday that four travel lanes are now open on Vedder Road between Keith Wilson Road and Watson Road, giving motorists in both directions way more room to navigate the roughly 900-metre stretch of road.
The north-south Vedder Road corridor is one of the most traveled routes in the city. In 2021, Vedder Road south of Higginson Road recorded 24,452 two-way trips in a 24-hour time period, according to the city’s website.
Daytime public works activities will resume this coming Wednesday, July 6 through Friday, July 22 between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Curbs and sidewalks still need to be built, along with final streetlights installed. Line markings will occur during night shifts, coupled with traffic signal improvements at the Promontory and Vedder intersection. A two-way centre lane will be completed this month once the road is paved and has proper line markings in place.
