AGASSIZ – Due diligence by correctional staff at Kent Institution earlier this month paid dividends in an illicit narcotics seizure valued at over $25,000.

Prison staff at the maximum-security institution confiscated 36.6 grams of crystal methamphetamine, 1.5 grams of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), 42 nicotine patches, and four grams of opiates on June 6 and 9. The contraband seizures were valued at $25,540.

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) utilizes various techniques to prevent drugs from entering its prisons. These include ion scanners and drug-detector dogs to search buildings, personal property, inmates and visitors.

CSC says it will heighten measures to preclude contraband from entering its institutions to ensure its facilities remain safe and secure, working in partnership with local police to take action against offenders who seek to bring illicit substances into correctional facilities.
