CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack City Council is set to hold a public hearing on a temporary use permit for a proposed dog grooming business in Garrison at its meeting this coming week.

Applicant Dawn Theodore has submitted paperwork to operate a dog grooming business at a residence in the 5700 block of Cheamview Crescent.

Councillors will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, May 16 on a temporary use permit for the business. A maximum of three dogs would be permitted under the conditions of the temporary use permit. Because the proposed location is a duplex, a temporary use permit is required.

Residents within 30 metres of the proposed business were reportedly notified by the city of Chilliwack about the dog grooming business.

The residence of the proposed dog grooming business was purchased for $839,900 on August 22, 2022.

It’s not the first time in the past year that Chilliwack councillors were asked to approve a temporary use permit for a business involving man’s best friend.

Chilliwack City Council members approved the continued operation of a commercial dog breeding kennel in a residential neighbourhood in Sardis at its meeting on January 10, 2023. The commercial dog breeding kennel did not receive any complaints from neighbours, city staff indicated.
