AGASSIZ — District of Kent staff in Agassiz confirmed Thursday (May 11) by email that a proposed Tim Hortons will be built at the southeast corner of Highway 7 (Lougheed Highway) and Highway 9, across from the Canco gas station.

According to information provided by Lisa Beaulieu, director of development services for the district of Kent, the property address is 6438 Lougheed Highway. The property is already zoned for commercial development.

It’s not clear when it might be built. Beaulieu referred Fraser Valley Today to a company called JDH Holdings Limited. There was no phone number or website available through a common Google search.

At its meeting on July 18, 2022, district of Kent councillors voted to approve development permit 22-02 that would facilitate the construction of two-single story commercial units. The proposed businesses include a restaurant with a drive-through, a gas bar, and a car wash.

The district of Kent reported on its website that in response to Kent Council’s various concerns, the acting director of development services confirmed at the July 2022 meeting that the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure has approved the access and egress for the proposed development. In addition, improvements will include a dedicated left-hand turning lane. Staff will follow up with the developer as to the status of the existing “Welcome to Agassiz” sign. An updated landscaping plan to enhance shade in the parking lot will also be submitted.

In February 2021, the district of Kent conducted a public hearing to rezone properties at the southeast corner of the intersection from rural residential to highway commercial.

If built, the proposed Tim Hortons would offer nearby residents of Harrison Hot Springs an additional dining option. The proposed coffee shop and restaurant is about six kilometres from the waterfront at Harrison Hot Springs.
