RCMP locate human remains but can’t ID deceased without help

SURREY — Surrey RCMP are asking for the public’s assistance with identifying a deceased individual located in the Clayton area of Surrey.

On February 23, 2023, unidentified human remains were located on an empty lot in the 19100 block of Fraser Highway. Criminality is not believed to have been a factor in this death. (media release 2023-02-15).

The Surrey RCMP General Investigation Unit has been working in partnership with the B.C. Coroners Service to identify the individual, Mounties said in a statement Tuesday.

At this time, investigators have not established any connections with any ongoing missing person’s investigations and despite a number of investigative steps, the person’s identity remains unknown.

“We are hoping that the someone will recognize the distinct tattoo or clothing and be able to help identify this person,” Surrey RCMP media relations officer Corporal Vanessa Munn said. “We are asking anyone who believes they may know the identity of the deceased to contact Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502.”
