Abbotsford Police investigate home invasion at marijuana grow op in Sumas Prairie
ABBOTSFORD — The Abbotsford Police Department is investigating a home invasion that happened earlier this week at a grow op in Sumas Prairie in the 1500 block of Bowman Road east of Abbotsford.
Sgt. Paul Walker, media relations spokesman for the Abbotsford Police Department, said patrol officers responded at 12:57 a.m. on Monday, April 10 to a report of a home invasion. A group of male suspects wearing dark clothing had entered an occupied residence on the property, brandished a firearm, and assaulted two residents on the property.
Sgt. Walker said officers determined the property was home to an active marijuana grow operation. However, the two victims who were assaulted during this incident were not associated with the grow op but rather with the farm that operates on the same property. Both victims at the time of the home invasion suffered minor injuries and were “incredibly shaken,” Sgt. Walker said.
“This incident is incredibly concerning to the AbbyPD as, in this case, innocent people were targeted in this act of violence,” Sgt. Walker said. “AbbyPD is reminding those that house marijuana grow operations on residential properties within the City, that these operations pose a significant risk to public safety not only to the occupants of these operations, but to the nearby residents as well.”
