HOPE — Six firefighters from the Hope Fire Department were deployed to extinguish a recreational vehicle that caught fire on Othello Road early Thursday morning (Apr. 13).

According to a social media post from the department, Hope firefighters were dispatched to the 69000 block of Othello Road at approximately 2:30 a.m. for the report of a fire. On arrival, crews found an RV that was fully engulfed in fire. Fire personnel also located another small fire in a pile of construction material adjacent to a structure, about 50 feet away from the RV fire.

Both fires were contained and are considered suspicious and are under investigation, Hope Fire Department wrote on Facebook. Six firefighters responded to the call and units remained on scene until 4 a.m.

Overnight between Tuesday, April 4 and the early morning hours of Wednesday, April 5, Hope Fire Department says it responded to three suspicious fires in a 24-hour span.

One call involved a rubbish fire at a home under construction near Yale and Rupert. Fire personnel were dispatched for a second call shortly thereafter for a fire in a carport in the 300 block of 3rd Avenue. Cameron said the resident was able to act quickly thereby stopping the fire’s progress.

As crews continued to mop up the first fire, firefighters were dispatched at around 1 a.m. for a report of a structure fire in the 600 block of Hazel Street. According to Cameron, the fire originated in the garage area and a second fire was discovered in a shed on the property, involving an all-terrain vehicle. Yale and District Volunteer Fire Department assisted with an engine response under mutual aid, Cameron said. The home suffered extensive damage; 12 firefighters remained at the scene until 7 a.m.

“All fires are being considered suspicious and remain under investigation by the RCMP,” Fire Chief Thomas Cameron said.
