HOPE — Hope firefighters, along with volunteer personnel from the Yale and District Volunteer Fire Department, were able to contain a structure fire within a shop or shed on Landstrom Road, located west of downtown Hope, Monday evening.

According to Hope Fire Chief Thomas Cameron, Hope firefighters were dispatched for a structure fire sometime after 5 p.m. on Monday (Apr. 10). The fire originated, and was contained to, a shop or shed on the property. Chief Cameron said firefighters prevented the fire from spreading to a nearby residence.

A picture shared by Jay Thorsel shows multiple fire engines attending to a fire located directly behind a primary residence.

“Our thanks to the Yale and District Volunteer FD for their assistance in mutual aid,” Cameron said.

Cameron said no injuries have been reported, and the cause of the fire is unknown as of Monday night. He added that the fire is not considered suspicious at this time.

Just last week, Hope Fire Department says it responded to three suspicious fires in a 24-hour span.

One call involved a rubbish fire at a home under construction near Yale and Rupert. Fire personnel were dispatched for a second call shortly thereafter for a fire in a carport in the 300 block of 3rd Avenue. Cameron said the resident was able to act quickly thereby stopping the fire’s progress.

As crews continued to mop up the first fire, firefighters were dispatched at around 1 a.m. for a report of a structure fire in the 600 block of Hazel Street. According to Cameron, the fire originated in the garage area and a second fire was discovered in a shed on the property, involving an all-terrain vehicle. Yale and District Volunteer Fire Department assisted with an engine response under mutual aid, Cameron said. The home suffered extensive damage; 12 firefighters remained at the scene until 7 a.m.

“All fires are being considered suspicious and remain under investigation by the RCMP,” Cameron said.
