LANGLEY – When a Langley man recently discovered he won $1 million from the Lotto 6/49 jackpot in late September, his first thought didn’t involve purchasing luxury cars or going on a spending binge.

Instead, the Langley resident is a little happier now that he can lend a helping hand to his kids.

According to a statement from the British Columbia Lottery Corporation, Dale N. (last name withheld) has been playing the lottery with a series of numbers he derives from family members’ birthdays. That lucky combination landed him a cool prize of $1 million from the Lotto 6/49 Guaranteed Prize in the September 30, 2026 draw.

When he checked his ticket on the Lotto! app and realized he had won, his first thought was to help his kids.

“It feels awesome, not because of the money, but because I can help my kids with future expenses,” he said.

While he doesn’t have any major plans to spend the money, he says he would like to travel to England to visit museums and explore the country’s history. Although he says he does not plan on celebrating, he might more time now to enjoy some of his favourite things, like fishing for salmon, cooking and spending time with his dogs.

The winning ticket was purchased at Douglas Park Market in Langley.

Thus far in 2026, B.C. lottery players have redeemed more than $39 million from Extra and $86 million from Lotto 6/49. Lotto 6/49 is a nationwide lottery game drawn on Wednesdays and Saturdays after 7:30 p.m. (PST).
