ABBOTSFORD – Police in Abbotsford say a significant collision involving a grain truck on Highway 1 in Abbotsford has slowed traffic in both directions early Thursday morning.

Sgt. Paul Walker says a fully loaded grain truck overturned Thursday morning (Oct. 8), blocking multiple lanes of traffic.

Fortunately, no injuries have been reported at this time, he said.

The Pulse Point app indicates there was a traffic collision near Sumas Way/Hwy. 11 at approximately 2:06 a.m.

At one point, Highway 1 was reduced to a single lane in both directions while emergency crews work to manage the scene and safely remove the vehicle, Sgt. Walker said.

The westbound on-ramp at Sumas way has been closed to accommodate keeping the Highway 1 westbound slow lane open during the morning commute, as a result of the ongoing collision scene, Sgt. Walker said.

Drivers looking to enter Highway 1 westbound in Abbotsford are asked to use the McCallum Road westbound on-ramp.

As of 5:10 a.m., DriveBC says the left lane is closed in both directions at the Sumas Way overpass.

Motorists are urged to use extreme caution when travelling through the area and to expect substantial delays during the morning commute.
