Inmate dies at Agassiz prison

AGASSIZ – Federal correctional staff say an inmate who had been serving a sentence of just under 10 years has died while in custody at an Agassiz prison this past week.

In a statement, Correctional Service Canada says Regis Patrick Palmer, an inmate at Mountain Institution in Agassiz, died in custody of apparent natural causes last Friday, Oct. 2.

At the time of death, Palmer was 70 years old and had been serving a sentence of 9 years and 11 months since July 6, 2023.

Multiple media outlets say Palmer was convicted of sexually assaulting a child numerous times, and for making and possessing child sexual abuse material.
