Police arrest speedster already suspended from driving: Agassiz RCMP

AGASSIZ — Agassiz RCMP say traffic enforcement has been top of mind for the detachment over the past two weeks, leading to “several” investigations and violation tickets.

Among those violations is a speeding driver clocked at 97 km/h in an 80 km/h zone along McDonald Road, but when an officer pulled them over, the driver couldn’t show his licence. 

Investigation revealed the driver’s licence was suspended, and the individual was arrested. They were later released to appear in court again at a later date.

Mounties clocked another speeding driver going 106 km/h in a 60 km/h zone on Highway 9 during that same period.

That driver received a $368 fine for excessive speeding.

Officers also stopped five impaired drivers, including one vehicle that kept driving past a stop sign near Pioneer Avenue early in the morning.

An officer then conducted a traffic stop and saw signs of alcohol impairment. The driver failed two breathalyzer readings and received an immediate road ban.

All three drivers had their vehicles impounded, with the Highway 9 driver having their car seized for a week.

Agassiz RCMP responded to a total of 171 calls for service from September 14 to 27, according to the detachment’s biweekly snapshot.
