B.C. crash that killed 2, hurt 2 darkens National Truth and Reconciliation Day
KAMLOOPS — The deaths of two pedestrians and injuries of two others on a First Nation in Delta, B.C., has marred what was to be day of recognition for the harms caused at Canada’s residential schools.
The Tsawwassen First Nation cancelled further events for the day after the deaths and injuries at the Tsawwassen Mills shopping centre, about 30 kilometres south of Vancouver.
Police said it’s believed the driver of a truck experienced a medical emergency.
British Columbia NDP Leader David Eby was at the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc First Nation for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and told an audience that the collision is “very difficult news” during an “already challenging day.”
