Man dies while in custody at Abbotsford prison

ABBOTSFORD – A man serving a life prison sentence since the mid-1990s has died at an Abbotsford correctional facility.

In a statement, Correctional Service Canada said Dale Robert Marsh, 71, died of apparent natural causes last Wednesday, Sept. 23, while in custody at Pacific Institution’s Regional Treatment Centre in Abbotsford.

Marsh had been serving a life sentence since October 10, 1995.

Federal correctional personnel say the inmate’s next of kin have been notified.

Whenever an inmate dies in custody, federal correctional staff review the circumstances. Federal policy from the CSC requires that the police and the coroner be notified.
