Update: Power restored to thousands of customers in Chilliwack, Langley Tuesday morning

CHILLIWACK – Repair crews with BC Hydro have been deployed to three major outages affecting over 8,500 customers in the Fraser Valley Tuesday morning.

In Chilliwack, over 5,500 customers are without power in the downtown area and the neighbourhoods off Ashwell Road, as well as other areas, following a major outage Tuesday morning.

BC Hydro’s online dashboard reports that 3,425 customers west of Young Road lost power at 3:50 a.m., and another 2,088 customers west of Yale Road lost power at 3:49 a.m.

In both cases, BC Hydro says the cause is under investigation, although people are claiming online that a transformer blew.

Crews are already on site for both outages. Power is expected back on by 8 a.m. in both outages.

BC Hydro’s website was last updated at 5:50 a.m. and 5:57 a.m., respectively, so the above information and restoration times are subject to change.

Over in Langley, 3,037 customers lost power at 5:02 a.m. this morning.

The affected areas there include Brookswood and the 200 Street (north-south) corridor stretching almost to the U.S. border, as per the BC Hydro map. Crews are on their way and should arrive by 6:55 a.m. there. The cause is under investigation, like the outages in Chilliwack.
