Chilliwack business leader named executive director of Fraser Valley-based foundation

“Separate from that, I have also decided to run for city council. That decision comes from my own experience and my passion for this community,” Kemp said. “Over my career, from twenty one years with McDonald’s to my time in the non profit sector to my years here at the Chamber, I have learned that leadership means showing up for people, listening to them, and fighting for what is right even when it is hard. I want to bring that same heart to serving Chilliwack at the council table. I am incredibly grateful to our board, our members, and our staff for trusting me these past eight years. I will be cheering this organization on from the sidelines, and I am excited for what comes next, both for the Chamber and for our city. Thank you, Chilliwack. Let’s keep building something great together.”

During her career, Kemp developed a track record of bringing people together to get things done. For example, she created a community-to-community dialogue committee, bringing local government, economic development organizations, and First Nations government and economic teams together for informal, honest conversation. Seven of Chilliwack’s ten local First Nations are currently at the table, and two dialogues have already been held.

In June 2025, Kemp was recognized for making the Chilliwack Chamber of Commerce one of the most outstanding chamber organizations in British ColumbiaThe Chamber of Commerce Executives of British Columbia (CCEBC) acclaimed Kemp as one of the 2025 recipients of the Gerry Frederick Memorial Awards at its annual conference. The awards recognize excellence, leadership, and innovation among Chamber executives across the province. Kemp received the Executive of the Year award for chambers with over 500 members. CCEBC said these awards celebrate those who go above and beyond in advancing their Chambers, empowering their teams, and making a lasting impact in their communities.

Under Kemp’s leadership, the Chilliwack Chamber grew into into one of the province’s most dynamic organizations. Membership grew 8.6 per cent in 2024, while its retention rate was 90 per cent, making it one of the highest in the province. With a focus on relevance, responsiveness, and community impact, Kemp implemented standout programs such as the Women’s Leadership Collective, Reconciliation through Education, and Emerging Leaders. Her innovative approach earned the Chamber the 2019 BC Chamber of the Year award. Kemp has also spearheaded revenue stability through sold-out sponsorships, strategic events, and multi-year funding models.

In addition to her Chamber leadership, Kemp served as vice chair of the CCEBC Board, led provincial conference planning, and mentored new chamber executives. Her community involvement consisted of healthcare, Indigenous economic development, and regional advocacy initiatives.

Kemp also co-founded the Chilliwack Economic Resource Network, a standing group of business organization leaders who meet three to four times a year to work through community challenges together. She served as chair of the Provincial Executives of BC board and held an elected seat on its national board.

Kemp has resided in Chilliwack for approximately 18 years dating back to 2008. That’s when she moved here after marrying her husband, whose roots are in Chilliwack. Together they have raised their two children, who are now in their early teens and are active in local sports, in the community.

The Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation was founded in April 2000 to develop partnerships with individuals, local organizations and businesses to support local health care services within the Fraser Valley Regional Hospital District.
