stɑl’əw̓ Pow Wow returns to Langley this weekend

LANGLEY — The fifth annual stɑl’əw̓ Pow Wow returns to the Langley Events Centre September 11 to 13, welcoming people of all ages and backgrounds for a weekend of Indigenous singing, dancing, drumming, food, art and culture.

Hosted by the Indigenous women-led stɑl’əw̓ Arts & Cultural Society and the stɑl’əw̓ Pow Wow Committee, the three-day event brings together Indigenous communities from across the region and beyond.

“It’s really a reclamation of our identity, connecting and reconnecting with other Indigenous communities,” says society manager q̓ʷɑt̓ic̓ɑ, Phyllis Atkins. She says the Pow Wow is a safe and inclusive event and encourages people to attend and be part of it.

Hundreds of dancers are expected in the arena in vibrant regalia through the weekend. Saturday is the busiest day and includes an evening Grand Entry, when more than 500 dancers will make their way into the arena together.
