B.C. Conservation Officer Service fines man thousands for angling in Maple Ridge without a license

MAPLE RIDGE – A B.C. man has been penalized thousands of dollars and given a one-year fishing ban after pleading guilty to six charges under the Wildlife Act.

The Conservation Officer Service of B.C. says Kenneth Ryder was angling on the Alouette River in Maple Ridge in February 2025 when he was checked by a conservation officer.

During the check, the service says its officer recognized him as she had previously ticketed him in 2023 for angling without a license or permit required by regulation.

Ryder received a $6,000 fine and the one-year ban after pleading guilty to six charges, including knowingly making a false statement in order to obtain a license; obtaining a license while a fine was outstanding (2023-24 and 2024-25); angling without a license or permit required by regulation to wit: steelhead conservation surcharg; angle while angling licence cancelled; and failing to produce a prescribed photo ID to an officer.
