B.C. NDP nominates candidate for Abbotsford-Mission byelection in September

MISSION — A former Abbotsford-Mission MLA is vying for the seat again to represent the provincial NDP in the upcoming district byelection.

Former Minister of Agriculture and Food Pam Alexis, who also served as a mayor in Mission, has been nominated by the B.C. NDP to run for the position again this September.

“It’s tough out there right now, and families in Abbotsford and Mission need an MLA and a government that’s looking out for them,” said Alexis.

“David Eby and the BC NDP are strengthening health care by hiring doctors and nurses, bringing down housing costs, and creating good-paying jobs. Meanwhile, the BC Conservatives are focusing on culture wars over the things that matter most.”

Alexis’ resume also includes serving on the boards of the Mission Chamber of Commerce and Mission Rotary Club, with her public service experience starting as a school trustee from 2005 to 2011.

She was elected as the Abbotsford-Mission MLA in 2020 before Reann Gasper took over in 2024. Gasper then vacated the seat on August 22 this year to let Conservative Party leader Kerry-Lynne Findlay seek party nomination, triggering the byelection.

Premier David Eby has since endorsed Alexis for the electoral district, saying “With global uncertainty, and Trump’s trade attack, people need someone like Pam who will fight for them every single day and help us continue to make progress on key priorities like health care access and housing costs.”

The byelection has been called for Saturday, September 26. Advance voting is set to run from September 18 to 23.
