MISSION – Abbotsford-Mission MLA Reann Gasper announced Saturday that she will give up her seat to allow Conservative Party leader Kerry-Lynne Findlay to run and potentially have a seat in the B.C. legislature.

In a social media post, Gasper said she has decided to step down so that Findlay can seek the party’s nomination and run in a provincial by-election.

“Today I’m sharing a decision I have made about my future as MLA for Abbotsford-Mission,” Gasper said. “I have decided to step down and give Kerry-Lynne D Findlay the opportunity to seek the nomination and run here in a by-election. This is my decision. No one asked me to make it.”

Gasper said representing the communities of Abbotsford and Mission has been one of the greatest opportunities of her life.

“I will always be grateful to the people who put their trust in me, and to the many people who stood beside me along the way,” said Gasper, who was elected in October 2024. “But I believe in putting the bigger goal ahead of my own position. We need to defeat the NDP and form government. I believe in Kerry-Lynne. I believe in her leadership, her experience and her ability to represent this community. I support her, and I will do everything I can to help her win this seat.”

Gasper expressed thanks to everyone who supported her candidacy over the past two years.

“To everyone who supported me, worked alongside me and believed in me: thank you, thank you, thank you,” Gasper said. “This is not goodbye. I have more work to do. We have more work to do, and I am confident that, together, we will restore hope to BC.”

Findlay thanked Gasper for her service to Abbotsford-Mission and her contributions to the Conservative Caucus.

“I want to thank Reann for her service to the people of Abbotsford-Mission and for the significant contributions she has made to our Caucus and our Party,” said Findlay.

Findlay equally applauded Gasper for her advocacy as an MLA.

“Throughout her time in office, and especially in her ongoing role as Deputy Whip, Reann has been a valued member of our leadership team and a strong advocate for her constituents and our shared principles,” Findlay said. “I am grateful for the confidence Reann has placed in me and honoured by the opportunity she is creating for me to seek the nomination in Abbotsford-Mission.”

“Reann has made a thoughtful decision that puts the interests of our Party, our province, and our shared goal of forming government first. I look forward to working closely with our members and volunteers as we prepare for the by-election.”

“Our focus is clear. We need to earn the trust of the people of Abbotsford-Mission, strengthen our team, and build the momentum we need to defeat the NDP and form a strong, common-sense government for British Columbia,” Findlay said.

The Conservative Party of B.C. says Gasper will continue to work closely with Findlay and the Conservative Caucus in the months ahead toward its goal of forming government.
