The incident was one of 145 calls for service Hope RCMP recorded for the week of Monday, August 17 through to Sunday, August 23.

In other notable incidents the past week in the greater Hope area:

Hope RCMP received a report of a man in distress parked in a vehicle near the Laidlaw Road off-ramp along Highway 1. Police say the lone occupant of the vehicle was believed to be under the influence of drugs. Officers attended and identified the driver, who was exhibiting signs of intoxication. A roadside breath test was administered and returned a negative result for alcohol. Once out of the vehicle, Corporal Kiener says the man continued acting erratically. Police checks revealed his driver’s licence had been cancelled the previous year. When told could not drive due to his apparent level of impairment and lack of a valid licence, the man became agitated and attempted to flee the area. The man was arrested and held in police custody until sober and capable of caring for himself. The man was charged under the Motor Vehicle Act for driving without a valid licence and was issued a 24-hour driving prohibition.

Officers responded to a report of two men who appeared to be falling asleep near a vehicle parked in a parking lot on Hope Princeton Way, though police didn’t identify the address or specific location. When police arrived on scene, they observed a man asleep just outside of the vehicle, and a second man who was unconscious and slouched over the steering wheel of the vehicle which was still running. The man in the vehicle was awoken and told police he was prohibited from driving. The man was arrested for further investigation. Later that day, the vehicle was reported stolen from a nearby neighborhood in Hope. The man is expected to appear in court at a later date.
