An observant resident contacted police after she observed a suspicious tan-coloured pickup truck towing a trailer through her neighbourhood, the AbbyPD said. The resident was able to provide investigators with photographs that proved valuable to the investigation.

Behind the scenes with assistance from Patrol Officers, AbbyPD’s Crime Reduction Unit immediately began gathering and analyzing information from a variety of sources. Through their efforts, detectives located the trailer, recovered most of the stolen items, and identify and arrest the suspect.

The suspect, 42-year-old Collins Brophy, is known to police and has been charged with possession of stolen property under $5,000 and breach of an undertaking.

“This recovery highlights the important role our community plays in helping solve crime,” Abbotsford PD said. “The information provided by an attentive resident, combined with the investigative work of our Crime Reduction Unit, helped return this property to its rightful owner and hold a suspect accountable. The Abbotsford Police Department would like to remind residents that if they see something suspicious or observe activity that doesn’t seem right, they should report it. Community information, no matter how minor it may seem, can be crucial to an investigation.”
