HOPE – Not long after the aquatic centre at the Cheam Leisure Centre in Chilliwack began a nearly month-long shutdown for maintenance, another public pool in the Fraser Valley will undergo a similar closure.

The Fraser Valley Regional District says the Dan Sharrers Aquatic Centre pools at the Hope Recreation Centre will be closed starting this Sunday, August 16 through to Sunday, Sept. 13 for its annual maintenance shutdown. The pools will reopen for regular programming the following day (Monday, Sept. 14).

The FVRD says it has scheduled a range of important upgrades and repairs to ensure the facility remains in tip-top shape.

For example, the steam room will have re-grouting and sealing.

Personnel will empty and rebuild the interior components of its sand filters.

Routine mechanical maintenance will occur to ensure all its systems operate smoothly.

FVRD also says the surge tank will undergo detailed maintenance, in addition to enhancements and upgrades in the mechanical room.

The facility itself will undergo a thorough cleaning alongside general maintenance.

“Our facilities team and lifeguards will conduct a thorough cleaning, including servicing stainless steel fixtures, hot tub jet rebuilds and repainting, multiple pool pumps and components, and the chemical feed system,” FVRD said.

All change rooms and shower areas will undergo a comprehensive cleaning and maintenance.

“We appreciate your understanding and patience during this necessary closure and look forward to welcoming you back to an improved and well-maintained aquatic centre,” FVRD said.
