Public hearing called to allow future expansion of care facility on church property in Chilliwack
CHILLIWACK – Chilliwack councillors gave first and second reading to a proposal at their meeting last week that would allow a Chilliwack church to further expand a care facility on its Broadway property.
Chilliwack councillors gave first and second reading last Tuesday, Aug. 4 to a zoning bylaw amendment which proposes to rezone a portion of 1-8920 Broadway, Bethel Netherlands Reformed Congregation, from a low density multi-unit residential zone (R4) to a P2 (Special Institutional) zone.
According to a city staff report from municipal planner Navdeep Sidhu, an application to rezone a portion of 8920 Broadway Avenue from an R4 to the P2 zone was approved by Chilliwack City Council in 2013. Sidhu says the rezoning permitted the construction of an addition to the existing seniors housing complex in order to create a residential care facility on the property associated to Bethel Netherlands Church.
The current application proposes rezoning a large portion of the property to support further expansion of the care facility.
