Hundreds lose power in Cultus Lake Monday night after vehicle strikes pole

CULTUS LAKE – Hundreds of customers in Cultus Lake lost power Monday evening after a vehicle struck a pole near the roundabout at Columbia Valley Highway and Sunnyside Boulevard, just steps from the nearby Cultus Lake Adventure Park.

Chilliwack RCMP, Cultus Lake Fire Department crews and BC Ambulance Service paramedics were dispatched to the roundabout at approximately 10:10 p.m. Monday (Aug. 10) after getting a report that a vehicle struck a pole.

The motor vehicle incident resulted in live wires on the ground.

First responders at the scene could be heard urging spectators who had gathered to be moved away from the area due to the live wires on the ground.

At least three Chilliwack RCMP units attended.

Scanner traffic indicated one person was taken into custody, but it’s not clear if the driver of the vehicle was formally arrested.

BC Hydro repair crews were asked to attend.

BC Hydro’s website revealed that 418 customers lost power at 10:19 p.m. due to a motor vehicle incident. Crews were assigned shortly thereafter.

Power has since been restored.
