Updated: Substation fault to blame for outage that affected nearly 5,000 in Agassiz, Harrion areas

UPDATE, 1:25 P.M. WEDNESDAY: Power has now been restored to over 4,600 customers in Agassiz, Harrison Hot Springs, Seabird Island and Harrison Mills.

A BC Hydro spokesperson told Fraser Valley Today in an email that the outage actually affected approximately 5,000 customers in the Agassiz and Harrison Hot Springs area and was caused by a substation fault.

Power was restored to all affected customers within about an hour, BC Hydro spokesperson Susie Rieder told Fraser Valley Today via email.

AGASSIZ/HARRISON – Over 4,600 customers in Agassiz, Seabird Island, Harrison Hot Springs and parts of Harrison Mills lost power Wednesday afternoon shortly after noon.

BC Hydro’s outage dashboard reveals 1,071 customers lost power west of Agassiz at about 12:05 p.m., while 1,801 customers in most of Agassiz and much of Seabird Island lost power at 12:04 p.m.

In Harrison Hot Springs, 1,731 customers lost power at 12:07 p.m.

Altogether, 4,603 customers are without power Wednesday afternoon.

The cause has not been identified online, only that it’s under investigation.

No crews have been assigned as of 12:22 p.m.
