Godbout, a 25-year-old from Lévis, Que., needed extra time to defeat India’s Ishroop Narang 1-0 and claim bronze in the women’s -78-kilogram division.

Canada finished with seven judo medals at the Games, including four gold.

“We truly believed all our athletes had a shot at the podium. We ended up with seven medals out of nine possible ones, and the two athletes who didn’t win medals made it to the bronze-medal finals, so we really couldn’t have asked for much more,” Bouchard said.

“For the athletes who hope to qualify for the 2028 Olympics, these Games have been an important milestone, especially for the younger ones who had no prior experience at multi-sport events. They performed some great judo.”

In track cycling, Maggie Coles-Lyster of Maple Ridge, B.C., earned bronze in the women’s elimination race, with Australia’s Alyssa Polites and Georgia Baker finishing first and second.

Coles-Lyster won her second career Commonwealth medal after taking bronze in the women’s scratch race at the 2022 Games.

The 27-year-old said she was “really happy” to reach the podium after undergoing career-threatening iliac artery surgery last year.

“I had a career-changing surgery last year, so this has been my comeback year, and it’s also been my best season ever,” Coles-Lyster said in a press release. “Coming into these Games I thought, ‘Don’t leave without a medal,’ so today was my last chance to make that happen and I’m really happy I did.

“To get the job done in the elimination today, my favourite event, was a great feeling and a big sigh of relief.”

The three-medal day helped Canada finish with 62 medals overall — 19 gold, 20 silver and 23 bronze — across 10 days of competition. Canada placed third in the medal table behind Australia and England.

Quebec City’s Julien Frascadore capped the Games by carrying Canada’s flag into the closing ceremony at the Hydro arena. Frascadore won judo gold in the men’s -66-kilogram division on Friday.

“Being named Team Canada’s closing ceremony flag bearer is an incredible honour and something I will cherish forever,” Frascadore said. “Winning a gold medal was a dream come true, but what I’ll remember most about these Games is being part of this team. The support we’ve shared as teammates, within judo and across Team Canada, has been unlike anything I’ve experienced.”
