Chilliwack meat shop owner awarded with 2026 B.C. Medal of Good Citizenship

CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack-based Tydel Foods’ impact on the community is being recognized with the acceptance of an annual award this B.C. Day.

The meat shop’s owner, Brigida Crosbie, has received a Medal of Good Citizenship from the province for transforming her business into a lifeline for care and community connection for underprivileged people.

Tydel Foods location to remain open after outpouring of community support

Crosbie has spent more than 12 years supporting residents through Tydel Foods with programs such as her monthly food initiative for low-income seniors, which supports over 800 people, as well as distributing up to 100 sandwiches and bottled water each day to those in need.

“Much of this work is funded personally and supported by community donations, reflecting her deep commitment to service,” wrote the province. “Through compassion, generosity and leadership, she has created a welcoming space that brings people together while meeting essential needs.”

Crosbie has also expanded services through her Community Angels Food and Housing Support Society, which opened a new Seniors Room this year.

The Medal of Good Citizenship is awarded to individuals whose generosity has made lasting impacts on their communities.

A total of 13 residents received the award this year.

“British Columbia is a better place because of people who dedicate their time and talents to improving the lives of those around them,” said Premier David Eby.

“This year’s recipients have devoted their energy, skills and compassion to enriching the places where they live. Through their leadership, volunteerism and service, they have helped build a stronger, more caring and connected province.”

Medal presentation ceremonies are set to be held in the coming months.
