CHILLIWACK — Upper Fraser Valley RCMP were kept busy removing impaired drivers from the streets and highways around Chilliwack over the last week.

According to its weekly #TrafficTuesday (Jan. 24) tweet issued by the detachment, 11 impaired driving charges or driving prohibitions were issued over the week from January 16 to January 23. Police also pulled a prohibited driver off the road and issued three tickets for excessive speed in the past week.

RCMP reported that since January 2, officers have found 40 drivers getting behind the wheel while impaired. “There is still too many people making the wrong decision around operating a motor vehicle after consuming drugs and alcohol,” said Sgt. Krista Vrolyk.
“There is always an alternative, whether it’s calling a friend, a taxi, or planning ahead.”

In it’s tweet, RCMP says it remains committed to road safety for the good of the public.
