CHILLIWACK — Construction is set to begin this week on a project that will see improvements to the parking lot at the city-owned Chilliwack Landing.

The City of Chilliwack said on Facebook Wednesday morning that construction to finish the parking lot at the Chilliwack Landing, located on Corbould Street, will begin Thursday (Jan. 19). Access to the Landing will remain available from Corbould Street and Spadina Avenue. Residents can expect some traffic delays.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of June, according to Jamie Leggatt, director of communications for the City of Chilliwack.

Proposals to finish the parking lot were received from four shortlisted companies doing business in British Columbia, including Eurovia British Columbia, Jake’s Construction Ltd., Lafarge Canada, and Strohmaier’s Excavating Ltd.

Jake’s Construction came in with the low bid of $917,500 plus applicable taxes, followed by Strohmaier’s Excavating at $1,012,207.97, Eurovia at $1,114,328.32, and Lafarge Canada, the highest bidder, at $1,283,000.

City staff recommended that Chilliwack City Council accept the lowest bid from Jake’s Construction; councillors voted at their meeting on December 6, 2022 to accept the bid.

The parking lot project had already been incorporated into the city’s 2022 Financial Plan, and will be funded from the general capital reserve, according to a city staff report.
