Serious accidents close 2 Abbotsford roads Tuesday night; 5 in hospital, including 1 airlifted victim

ABBOTSFORD – Two serious motor vehicle incidents have closed a pair of Abbotsford-area roads Tuesday evening, one of which was a private bus that rolled after colliding with a passenger vehicle.

AbbyPD officers attended the scene of a serious two-vehicle collision at Clearbrook Road and Austin Avenue involving a private bus and a passenger vehicle. Police were notified about the accident at 7:32 p.m.

There were multiple passengers aboard the bus at the time of the incident.

Three individuals were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the passenger vehicle was also taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation is in its early stages and is being led by the Abbotsford Police Department’s Patrol Branch, with support from the Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement (CVSE) Unit and WorkSafeBC investigators who attended the scene.

Clearbrook Road was closed in both directions between Maclure Road and Blueridge Drive for several hours while first responders managed the scene and conducted their investigation.

Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the collision, observed the vehicles prior to the collision along Clearbrook Road, or who may have dash camera footage, to contact the Abbotsford Police Department at 604-859-5225.

Less than a half hour later, AbbyPD officers were called to a serious collision on Sumas Way at McClary Avenue, north of Costco, involving a motorcycle and a commercial vehicle, at 7:39 p.m.

The motorcycle rider sustained serious life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to hospital.

The driver of the commercial vehicle wasn’t injured but remained on scene and cooperated with police.

Sgt. Walker says the investigation remains in its early stages and is being overseen by AbbyPD’s patrol branch, with assistance from the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS).
