Update, 9:10 p.m. Tuesday night: Chilliwack Assistant Fire Chief of Operations Trevor Kirkpatrick says two people have been arrested in connection with a suspicious log debris fire along the Vedder River that may have been intentionally started.

In a statement released Tuesday night, Kirkpatrick says fire crews were paged at approximately 5:40 p.m. for a reported log debris pile on fire near Peach Road along the Vedder River.

Approximately 14 firefighters from Halls 2 (Rosedale), 4 (South Sumas) and 6 (Greendale) responded.

Due to the location of the fire, Kirkpatrick says crews shuttled several loads of water to the scene and were able to bring the fire under control.

Preliminary findings suggest the debris pile fire was intentionally set, Kirkpatrick said.

He says RCMP officers attended the scene and arrested two individuals.

There were no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters at this fire.
