CHILLIWACK — A curling team that was inducted into the Kamloops Sports Hall of Fame last year headlines one of the eight teams vying for bragging rights at the 2023 B.C. Scotties that kicks off Wednesday at the Chilliwack Curling Club.

Curl B.C. will present the 2023 Scotties B.C. Women’s Curling Championship, sponsored by Best Western, and the 2023 B.C. Men’s Curling Championship open in Chilliwack this week.

Both events run from Wednesday, Jan. 11 through to Sunday, Jan. 15, with the championship finals taking place on Sunday. People can watch the events in person or on YouTube.

“These two championships are our flagship events,” said Scott Braley, CEO of Curl B.C., the provincial governing body for the sport of curling. “We couldn’t be happier to be holding them in a wonderful city like Chilliwack, at a top-notch venue like the Chilliwack Curling Club.”

While this is Chilliwack’s first B.C. Men’s and Scotties, the city has been no stranger to curling events. In 2016, it hosted the B.C. Juniors, and, in the last five months alone, it has welcomed the 2021 U16 Challenge Cup, the 2022 B.C. Seniors Championship, and the 2023 Canada Winter Games qualifiers.

The winning men’s team from this week’s championship will go on to compete at the 2023 Tim Hortons Brier in London, Ontario. The winning women’s team will compete at the 2023 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Kamloops.
