ABBOTSFORD — There are better ways to save money than cutting corners on car insurance, or lack thereof.

The Abbotsford Police Department wrote on social media that a 39-year-old man faces charges for dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and prohibited driving after he attempted to elude police at a rest stop between Chilliwack and Abbotsford because he didn’t have car insurance.

According to a tweet from Abby PD, patrol officers on Friday (Jan. 6) located a vehicle at the Cole Road rest stop without car insurance since 2017.

Upon seeing a police vehicle, the driver, later identified as Jake McMahon, attempted to elude police and wound up striking a police vehicle. His vehicle, which appeared to be a Nissan Versa-type compact car, was subsequently boxed in, and McMahon now faces two charges, the Abby PD said on Twitter Saturday.
