‘Significant emergency response’ occurs after civilian vehicle strikes Abbotsford Police car Monday
ABBOTSFORD – The AbbyPD has set the record straight around a motor vehicle incident in which a civilian vehicle struck an Abbotsford Police Department car Monday afternoon near South Fraser Way, resulting in a significant emergency response.
Fraser Valley Buzz, a popular social media account with a huge following on multiple channels, captioned a video with the phrase “alleged police chase” depicting multiple police vehicles in the area of South Fraser Way and Bourquin Crescent East Monday afternoon. However, that’s not exactly what happened.
AbbyPD spokesperson Sgt. Paul Walker says an Abbotsford police officer was travelling eastbound with the flow of traffic on South Fraser Way shortly after 3 p.m. on Monday (May 25). As the officer approached the intersection of South Fraser Way and Bourquin Crescent, the officer witnessed a vehicle heading northbound on Bourquin Crescent East approaching the intersection at a speed that demonstrated it was not likely to stop for the posted stop sign.
Sgt. Walker says the officer attempted to avoid a collision; however, the civilian vehicle failed to stop and struck the police vehicle, causing the civilian vehicle to spin around.
